Custom Work Done For Others Print E-mail

Our Luthier, Paul Von Schmidt, has done a wide variety of custom and repair  work for many famous musicians , including but not limited to: Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ian Hunter, Dave Matthews, Stefan Lessard , Dennis Dunaway, Sam Rivers, James "Munky" Shaffer, and many more (I can't remember all of them).

Here are a few pictures of some of the work he has done (click read more to see all of them, more pictures coming soon):

This guitar was custom designed and painted for Dave Matthews, to include ane elephant on the face of the guitar.  The picture isn't the best, but if you rotate your head to yourleft you should see the elephant.

Here is a picture (before and after) of some custom fretwork that Paul did for Stefan Lessard, as per a design drawn by Stefan himself. If you ever have any cool designs or pictures that you'd like on a guitar, Paul is your man. The design , as drawn, is at the top of the picture.

Some of you may know about Sam River's signature "glowing fretboard" on his bass guitar.  Well, Paul was the man responsible for that. He took Sam River's bass and turned it into a "glowing fretless wonder".

George Harrison Magical Mystery Tour "Rocky" Stratocaster Print E-mail

You all have probably heard of the late George Harrison, perhaps one of the most infamous guitar players of all time as the somewhat overshadowed-but unabashedly brilliant- lead guitar player for The Beatles. His talent as a musician, if not reflected in his work with the Beatles, was highlighted through his successful solo career, after having what many consider to be the most successful solo career of all the Beatles.

This is a  very faithful reproduction of George Harrison's "Rocky" Stratocaster from the Magical Mystery Tour that is lightly reliced to look like the original. It started out as a Fender USA 62 Reissue and then we gave it to our Custom Art Department and one of our artists went to work! It is hand hand painted, and clear-coated by hand to protect the artwork.

Features of this model include an Alder body, Rosewood fretboard, Maple neck, 3 Fender single coil PUs, Volume, Tone, Tone 3 way switch, Chrome hardware, Fender vintage style tremolo bridge, Hardshell case, "Rocky" artwork hand painted just like the original.

(webmaster's note): I'll be taking more pictures of this guitar soon, guys. This doesn't do it justice.

Mick Ronson Tribute Gibson Les Paul Print E-mail

Mick Ronson burst onto the scene in the early 70's as the band leader of ''The Spiders from Mars'', David Bowie's back up band that launched his Ziggy Stardust persona into the stratosphere of Rock & Roll history. Mick sanded down the top on the guitar because he was told it would improve the sound. Whether or not this is true, who can say, but it did make the guitar visually unmistakable.

Mick played this Les Paul Custom throughout the Bowie years and later with Bob Dylan, Ian Hunter and every other project he worked on until 1982 when he retired it to the Hard Rock Cafe in Australia. During it's tenure as Mick's #1 guitar, it was captured in thousands of photo's, (some quite notorious) by Mick Rock, (remember the photo of Bowie on his knee's?) as well as being front and center on the cover of Mick's solo album, ''Play Don't Worry''.

In 2001 it was rescued from the Hard Rock Cafe by Rick Tedesco and sent to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland where it was on display for 2 years.

"Since finding it, I have received hundreds of e-mails on it and it occurred to me since there were so many tribute guitars out there, there should be something available to the Ronson fan! I approached Suzy Ronson and Mick's daughter Lisa Ronson and they thought it was a great idea- but we all had concerns and wanted it to be something special. " -Rick Tedesco

Limited to 100 units, each guitar will be modified to the specs of Mick's original LP. We are the only people that can do this with authenticity, because we actually have the original guitar in our Museum collection.

Also included will be a killer memorabilia package including an 8x10 Mick Rock photo ''Certificate of Authenticity'' suitable for framing signed by Suzy Ronson, Lisa Ronson and Rick Tedesco, a copy of Mick's biography  ''The Spider with the Platinum Hair'' signed by the authors ''Weird & Gilly'', a Ronson guitar pick and best of all, one of Mick's record albums from his personal collection! These records are from various artists from Elvis to Carl Perkins to test pressings of albums Mick worked on. They will be selected at random and include a certificate of authenticity stating they belonged to Mick as well. Each guitar will be numbered from 1 to 100 and will have a decal of Mick's signature on the back of the headstock.

The guitar is manufactured in the historic division of the Gibson Custom shop and features include a carved maple top, mahogany back and neck, binding on body / neck / headstock, aged hardware, Gibson ABR bridge/stopbar tailpiece, two Gibson humbucking pickup's with covers removed, two volume, two tone, 3-way switch, 22 fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl block inlays, 24 3/4'' Scale, 1 11/16'' Nut Width, natural unfinished top with ebony back and neck, Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case. While this is a Gibson guitar, this is not a Gibson Guitar Company promotion and can only be ordered exclusively through The Guitar Hangar.
