The sweet-toned, nylon-stringed ukulele originated in the 19th century in Hawaii. It gained great popularity in the U.S. during the early in 20th century and from there spread internationally. Ibanez offers a variety of models, including models featuring new and interesting woods, like this UEWT5E, which features a Sapele body and a Purpleheart bridge and fretboard.
The UEWT5E is the acoustic-electric version of the UEWT5. It features a Tenor-sized Sapele body with a venetian-style cutaway and C shape Mahogany neck that makes strumming and soloing a snap. But what makes the UEWT5 really special is the use of Purpleheart wood for the bridge and fretboard, which gives this ukulele a rich midrange and crisp high end. Other appointments include an Ibanez AEQ2U preamp w/Onboard tuner, plastic saddle and nut, abalone rosette and chrome open gear tuners.
