The NAMM Special Edition PELICAN GUITAR has gorgeous inlays which are creations by their Custom Shop designer, Pete Davies, Jr., whose work has graced various necks and soundboards on other Gallery Series and Limited Edition guitars. Graceful sea birds glide slowly through the ebony “sky” of the fretboard. Pelican wings fly across the face of a full moon inlays which are done with intricate laser-cut sections of koa, walnut, satinwood, and myrtle wood, and the back and sides of the PG-LTD are made of solid myrtle wood — a first for Taylor. Myrtle has unique tonal properties, combining bright, ringing chimes with a deep, vibrant warmth. However, because myrtle trees generally are too small, it rarely is used as a tonewood. Myrtle is the only tree in its family found in the Western United States, and its range is limited to within 160 miles east of the Pacific Coast. The myrtle wood for this guitar comes from Oregon. It is tawny in color and flamey, like the most outstanding maple. The fingerboard binding and peghead veneer of the PG-LTD are also fashioned of this rare wood. It's a true beauty, which is just what you come to expect from a Taylor.
Technical specifications for it include: Flame Mirtle Wood body, Sitka Spruce top, High-gloss thin ultraviolet-cured Body Finish, Tropical American Mahogany Neck, Scalloped X-bracing, Adjustable Truss Rod, 20 frets, maple and myrtle wood Soundhole Rosette, Flame Mirtle Wood Binding, Ebony fretboard, Ebony Headstock Overlay, 1 3/4 inches wide Tusq nut, Gold-plated Grover Tuners with Ebony Buttons, Expression Active Preamp System Electronics. Hardshell case is included.
